Create a Supertin of your existing tin and design tin (defined in that order) and model your drain to interface with the Supertin. No modifiers required.
Note: this assumes that your drain is not built into your design tin.

You should still be able to recalc an MTF/AM, even while editing the control/reference Super Alignment.
