limit of character numbers when creating models/files

Post by Jamey William Fairbairn »

HI, i have lost results from a while ago, but i seem to remember that there are issues if the length of a file name is too long? Can anyone jog my memory about the character number limit?
ie C:\Users\Surveyors at Work\Documents\PROJECTS SAW\SGQ Gladstone Monto road\GLADSTONE MONTO ROAD\GLADSTONE_MONTO_ROAD.project\REV1 300303022 10A C ALIGNMENTS MOD

Yes that is a windows issue. You can enable system wide use of long names, there is a prefix you can use per file
Or you can change the very deep folder path
In synergy the best way is to have a synergy sub job for 12dm project is the folder path is very long
Could look at 12dm model pahs as that uses shorter guid names for files but ultimately the issue is the folder path is too long
Cheers

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... limitation

Basically, 260 chars total length, but 256 chars after the drive letter bit. You don't seem to be hitting that limit, but there could be some path combinations at play.
