Convert Latitude Longitude to xy

I have GPS information which I have exported to a spreadsheet. It includes (way pt no, latitude, longitude, z)

Ive tried data input x,y,z,idpoint and then tried converting from lat long to xy using the survey - conversions - cartographic function but it wont let me do it.

I think the problem is because the data is coming into 12d with x y attributes...rather than lat/long attributes??

Can anyone advise the process of data in put I need to follow in order to get the lat/longs and then convert to xy??

When you say it won't let you do it, do you get any warnings or notifications, or it just fails?
