Retaining TIN colouring for IFC exports?

Post by steven dickinson »

Hi Forum,
I am having trouble exporting a Tin to IFC, and holding the colours of that Tin. Is there a way I can do this?
My tin is a design surface, and I have changed areas of the tin colouring post tin creation. (Tin -> colour triangles by string.. etc).
I have also tried creating a trimesh of the design surface tin, but the trimesh does not hold the Tin's colouring either.
I am exporting design surface Tin and / or trimesh as an IFC to import to ACC. Ideas?
Cheers Steve

Hi Steven,
Do the tin colours come up in any other IFC viewers?
Also, which version of IFC are you exporting to?

You could try the split tins by colour option on the Tin tab of the IFC Infrastructure writer. If you don't use this option then the tin colours are represented with an IfcIndexedColourMap, rather than the default method of associating colours, which may not be supported in your viewer.

It is weird that it isn't working for trimeshes either, this most likely indicates that the viewer has an issue with how it is reading in colours.
