k Values

Post by Cathal Hayes »

I am putting some vertical curves on my road alignment string, Does 12-D calculate K Values for curves of given radius and approaching slopes? Also is it possible to enter a minimum K Value so that only radii which have a K value > 10 can be inserted? :?

The K value is the same as the radius divided by 100 ie.. k=R/100.

When using super alignments you can create a design file which allows you to specify minimum K values to use for your vertical design. So as you add vertical ips it will add the minimum radius.

For alignemnt strings when you use parabloa->radius rather than parabola->length, the radius and therefore the k value will be maintained as use edit you vertical ips. Will not add vertical parabolas automatically like the super alignment.

Hi Cathal,

When you are editing your super alignment. The 5th button on the edit toolbar, 3rd down is the VIP properties.

In the first column of the gris is the design parameter. You can simply right click over this and choose the design parameter k-value, enter the value into the gris and press set.
