Middlle mouse button/wheel should pan??

Should this button pan the view when dragging (aka the hand tool)?
Like in AutoCAD, TBC etc; etc; ?

Hold Down Control and pan with the middle mouse button once. Then you can pan to your hearts content.
If you keep hold of control while panning, however many pans you do that's how many times you'll need to escape.

No. Middle button in 12d Model is used to confirm selections. There is a pan button on all views (looks like a hand) and you can also hold Ctrl+MB to start a middle button pan (once you've activated it, you can release the Ctrl key).

Thanks. I found the "hand" button allowing me to pan with left mouse button. I suppose I can leave it on.
I know I will be attempting to drag with the middle mouse button for a long long time though.

You should try double clicking it to fit view.

note there are setting to do 2 pan modes.

I original method was to nominate a point then a view to centre that point. then along came Dynamic which is the same as other cad applications

that can be toggled on / off with a kb d and set permanently to default mode

Most people now just zoom out with the wheel and zoom in, it becomes second nature

Thanks, the CRTL button is the best solution I have found. Zooming in and out doesn't feel comfortable for some reason.

Sorry to keep on about this.
If I use CTRL then MB to pan then I have to restart the current command after pans.
Is there a shortcut to slip[ into a pan mode by depressing a key

eg hold down CTRL while dragging MB, then releasing CTRL leaves you in the command state you were in previously?

Only hold Ctrl and pan once. Then pan with mmb. When you want to return to the previous command esc once.
